The Land of Promise
We have gained the land of promise
The land of corn and wine
Flowing the milk and honey
Watered by grace divine
And crowned with bounteous harvest
For the husband means reward
And rich with purple fruitage
Of the vineyard of the Lord
Here the sun for aye is shining
And the cooling breezes blow
Here is neither cold nor hunger
Here is neither frost or snow
No sickness and no sorrow
And neither pain nor loss
Can find the soul that hideth
In the shadow of the cross
The Lord is with his people
The brightness of His face
Is lighting up the wilderness
And solitary place
The wastes are glad because of Him
As to and fro He goes
The desert land rejoices
And blossoms as the rose
The morning stars are singing
And the spheres with music roll
There are living waters springing
For every thirsty soul
There is heavenly manna falling
Let us gather it and eat
There are angel voices calling
Come and worship at his feet
There’s a radiant presence with us
That has scattered our alarms
And about and underneath us
Are the everlasting arms
He will carry in His bosom
All the weaklings of His flock
Till all are safely folded
In the shelter of the Rock
O we were weak and wounded
And his touch has made us whole
He has brought us out of Egypt
To the Canaan of the soul
We were faint and famine wasted
But our vigor is restored
For our eager lips have tasted
Of the fullness of the Lord.
