God Is Love
Up and down, to and fro
Over this world of care and woe
The weary and heavy laden go.
Bearing their burdens along the way
Praying for strength from day to day
As only the lips of the sorrowful pray.
Hear them, Oh God, Let they help be given
To guide their basks to sheltering haven.
Strengthen the bruised and bleeding feet
So tired of treading life’s stony street
The morning to them was so fair and sweet
With beautiful landscapes and sunbright skies
Where the castles of hope in the air arise
And they struggled eagerly after the prize
But lengthening deserts stretched out to be crossed
And so in the desert their way was lost.
So wearily on and on
Without an anchor to lean upon
Feeling only they are alone
Alone in the crowded cities mart
Silently sadly stand they apart
Earth has no balm for the bleeding heart
The way is toilsome so rough and long
And the trembling feet are no longer strong
Over the fence on the hill
Under the violets lying so still
Sleeping quietly resting well
Are those who have trodden the selfsame road
Bearing in silence their heavy load
Ascending up to the Throne of God
No longer tired no more alone
Redeemed redeemed by the merciful one.
The voyage is long and the night is dark
And the waves break over the bank
And the hand hath little strength to steer
Through the roaring breakers foaming
But pray and Our Father will land near
Though the tempest thunders He can hear
And the blackest wave cannot overwhelm
While His strong hand is on the helm.
He will never forsake in the terrible strife
He will guide our bask through perils rife
Til the anchor is dropped in the waters of life
Till the landing is reached on that beautiful shore
Where all lifes trials and sorrow o’er
The feet of the blessed walk evermore
Walk through the pearly gates above
Sweetly singing Our God is Love.
