I Will Arise and Go To My Father
I’ve wandered from my Father’s house
A weary weary way
Over barren Places
My feet have gone astray
I have suffered cold and hunger
Far from His Loving care
While in His habitation
There is food and warmth to spare
I’ve fed upon the husks of sin
Within the strangers gates
While over for my coming
A loving Father waits
He has waited long to greet me
Is waiting still I know
The robe, the ring, the feast prepared
I will arise and go
O may His eyes behold me
As I journey from afar
May He meet me on the highway
Set the entrance gates ajar
May His heart be tender towards me
And His words of welcome kind
As I murmur on His bosom
O Father I have sinned
Let me serve thee as a hireling
As the lowest menial even
For I have sinned before thee
And offended against Heaven
I’ve squandered mine inheritance
And fed among the swine
And I am not more worthy
To be called a child of Thine
But take away these rags of sin
And clothe me in Thy grace
Put the best robe upon me
The robe of righteousness
Then let me with Thy lowliest
Thy humblest servant be
So that Thou smile upon me
It is enough for me.
